A university scholar, Professor Augustine Ogogo says research results conducted over the years do not get to farmers who produce food in the country.

Professor Ogogo said this is largely responsible for the food crisis plaguing the country today.

He disclosed this in Calabar during a conference organized by National Assembly members from the first to the fourth republics in the state.

Professor Ogogo spoke as a resource person and his paper was titled: “Food Security as a panacea gos stabilizing the Nigerian Economy”.

He said these results should be sent to farmers though agriculture extension officer to boost food production in the country.

“When researches are conducted and results come out, it has to get to the farmers through agric extension officers but they are not in the field and this is a challenge.

“These results are left in the laboratory rather than going to the people who produce food”, he said.

He identified other challenges militating against food production in the country to policy inconsistency, corruption and inadequate investment in agriculture.

He added that food insecurity is a forerunner to various economic challenges facing the country and so agriculture production should be prioritized to guarantee economic growth and boost the economy.

Earlier, the Chief host and former Senate President Senator Ameh Ebute said they will always discuss about the country and proffer solutions to it’s challenges.

He said this underscores why they called the conference and experts to present papers with a view to improving the fortunes of the country.
