Some flood victims at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp at Ogbe-Afor Primary School, Asaba, Delta State, have protested alleged diversion of relief materials.

They claimed the materials, which were donated by Red Cross Society, did not get to them and urged the state government to take urgent steps to recover the materials for proper distribution, as the camp will soon be closed officially.

One of the protesters, Major Patrick, said the relief materials, which he claimed vanished without trace, soon after Red Cross made the donation, were worth millions.

Patrick said the materials would be of no use once the camp is officially closed, noting that the government should make haste to recover the items and give them to those they were meant.

He, however, did not accuse the camp officials of being responsible for the alleged diversion, but insisted all hands must be on deck to recover the items.

Reacting, the Camp Commandant, Daniel Okpor, denied the allegations. He confirmed that the director general of Red Cross donated relief materials and said eight other camps had received their share of the donation.

He also assured that the materials will get to Ogbe-Afor camp soon.
