Four persons allegedly lost their lives on the spot on Thursday night when a speeding commercial tricycle they were travelling in rammed into a moving Toyota Sienna car, in Umu Okwukwu, along the Obingwa Local Government Area axis of the Aba/Ikot Ekpene highway in Abia State.
The fifth victim, it was gathered, died in a hospital where he had been taken to for medical attention. It was reported that the driver of the tricycle, popularly known as ‘keke’, carrying four passengers returning home from the day’s business in Aba, was over-speeding, despite having poor vision of the road currently being reconstructed, when the incident occurred.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Chika Dick, said the keke operator, and three of his passengers, died on the spot, while an injured passenger in the Toyota was declared dead in a nearby private clinic where he was taken to for treatment. There has been no comment on the incident by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) or Umuobiakwa Division of the Nigeria Police, which oversees security in the area as at the time this report was filed.
