Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has advised young people seeking admission into higher institutions in Nigeria to first, find out the relevance of their proposed course of study in the market place for next decade and beyond, before studying. This, he said, even as he admonished them to be focused, resilient and more importantly they must be studious if they must go higher in life.
The professor of Botany gave this charge at the 10th anniversary of RECALP, powered by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, YAYA LP 19, held in University of Lagos (Unilag).
The don who was the 12 Vice Chancellor of Unilag, while delivering a keynote address to a mammoth of young people encouraged young people to think outside the box and aim to be problem solvers, and serve God in their life time.
“Knowing the relevance of what to study is very important. So young people must be focused despite the current economic challenges. The noise all over the place is not peculiar to Nigeria. In all, they must serve God and believe in themselves even when others don’t believe in them, if you must soar in Life and make impact” he maintained.
For the host, Pastor Cyprian Orakpo, explain that the annual Program – RECALP which stands Relationship, Entrepreneurship, Career, Art, Leadership, and Politics, seeks to equip the next generation with requisite skills and knowledge to solve face future challenges, explore opportunities and solve problems.
“Sitting in church and listening to sermons is not enough. We want young people to unwind and relate with one another. We encourage them to be entrepreneurs. We also create a platform to build career for them. We make them understand that leadership and politics of the state and country at large also affects what they do in Life, so they are not supposed to be politically ignorant. We encourage them in arts and creativity. We strive to give them a whole spectrum of what matters in life, that is the vision of RECALP” he stressed.
A participant, Adaeze Onubugo, who expressed happiness, said prior to attending RECALP, everything she did was on ‘Trial and Error’ basis, but after attending the program, her life gained shape. “This program has improved my life in business development, career and relationship. Now I have focused in life because I’m now where I had wanted to be” she affirmed.
