Outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has left for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to honour the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Fayose had earlier written a letter to the EFCC saying he will turn himself in immediately his tenure as governor expires on October 16.

His Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said “the governor was on his way to Abuja; although, it’s tomorrow that he will be going to the EFCC office.

Fayose is expected to meet with the commission’s Director of Operations, Umar Mohammed, at the anti-graft agency’s head office.

The EFCC began investigation of Fayose, his wife, Feyisetan, and top aides over allegations of money laundering and abuse of office.

On Saturday evening, the governor moved around major streets of Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, where he thanked the people for their support and said his farewell to them.

Yesterday, Fayose, left the state amid hailing and emotional farewell from his admirers. Clad in a tee shirt and jeans, the governor climbed through the open-roof of his Lexus jeep, carried a board with inscription, “Ekiti-Kete, Thank you all and good bye.”

Tears rolled down the cheeks of many who lined up the streets to bid him farewell en route Akure Airport, in Ondo State, where he went to catch a flight.

Earlier, at a thanksgiving service held in his honour at the Government House Chapel, Fayose, in an emotion-laden voice thanked the people for their support in office and added that he would always be with them, urging them to trust in God for a better future for him and the state.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, led by their Chairman and Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju and the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe.

The governor’s wife, Feyisetan, as well as Fayose’s deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola and his wife, Janet; the Chief of Staff, Dipo Anisulowo; Head of Service, Dr. Gbenga Faseluka; the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Modupe Alade; former Speaker, Kola Oluwawole; members of the National and State Assembly, and members of his cabinet, among others, attended the service.

At the event, Feyi, said her husband would come back to Ekiti a triumphant man.

“We are coming back, I don’t know how but I have 200 per cent assurances,” she reiterated.
Fayose said he was leaving a contented and fulfilled man.

“I’m contented, I’m happy and I say thank you. Don’t be disparaged, don’t worry about me, I will come back. I will rise to the glory of God. I have enjoyed uncommon grace; I will never complain but thank God.”

Fayose told Oluwawole, who was impeached last Thursday, by 14 members of the House of Assembly, to concede defeat.

“I don’t want you to trouble your mind, there won’t be testimonies without battles. Go and concede defeat in the overall interest of Ekiti. You were removed illegally but let God fight for you,” Fayose told him.
