The nefarious  activities of area boys known as extortionists along Otto-Wharf Mile 2 road have resulted to a fallen of truck and a container while a truck was set ablaze at Okota Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State.
Information gathered by Daily Sun revealed that the two incidents happened in the early hours of Sunday, as the hoodlums destroyed containers loaded with imported goods.
Speaking with Daily Sun,  Chairman Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee (LASTCOC), Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo said that the incident happened when Area boys at Otto-Wharf Mile 2 road dragged steering with the driver leading to the falling of truck and the container.
He added that the incident makes it the fourth time area boys would be falling loaded trucks at Otto-Wharff this year alone.
He also said that area boys at Okota Amuwo Odofin set a truck ablaze after one of them in attempt to extort driver fell from a moving truck and lost his life. It also happened this Sunday morning.
He lamented that the activities of area boys and union thugs against truck and cargo operators is adversely affecting the ease of doing transportation business in Lagos State.
He disclosed that haulage businesses are relocating from lagos state, adding that foreign investors are being discouraged from investing in Nigeria.
According to him, trucking business is slowly collapsing due to sabotage by the activities of hoodlums, RTEAN and NURTW unions thugs.
“We are calling on Lagos State Government to declare outright ban on the activities of area boys and also tell NURTW and RTEAN to leave truck operators and focus on their Danfo, Korope and mini bus jurisdiction to avoid violent confrontation, break down of law and order.
“We truckers don’t collect money from Danfo buses and korope. We don’t disturb their business. Therefore, NURTW and RTEAN don’t have the right on the road to be destroying our trucks, wounding our drivers and falling people’s imported containers on the road under the guise illegal toll collection,” he lamented.
