A frontrunner in the chairmanship position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Chief James Okpara, has commended the party’s caucus in the state for zoning the chairmanship position to Abia North, in the upcoming state congress.

The Abia PDP rose from a state caucus meeting on Monday and adopted the recommendations of the Committee on the Rotation and Zoning of Offices for the upcoming state congress, which recommended the zoning and rotation of offices that has been followed in the past years.

In zoning the chairmanship to Abia North, the state caucus equally turned all the positions formerly held by Abia South over to Abia North, while all the positions held by Abia North, was turned to Abia Central, and all the positions held by Abia Central, turned over to Abia South.

The motion for the zoning arrangement was moved by Chief Chikwendu Kanu, former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, and was seconded by the BoT Chairman of the PDP, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

In thanking the state caucus of the party, Okpara, who was a former Commissioner for Special Duties, said zoning the chairmanship to Abia North was the best thing to have happened to the party in recent times.

The former commissioner said zoning the chairmanship position to Abia North has returned justice and fairness to the party.

“With this, I assure you that justice and fairness has come back to the party and it is going to be returned to winning ways again.”

Okpara described Abia North as the home base of the PDP in Abia, saying that the two Assembly seats in his local government of Bende belonged to the PDP.

He assured that if he eventually wins the chairmanship seat, he would make the PDP return to power in the state in 2027.
