Fourteen-year-old Ese Oruru, who was allegedly abducted by Yinusa Dahiru, taken to Kanoand impregnated by him, has given birth to a baby girl.
Dahiru allegedly abducted her in August 2015. She was, however, found to be pregnantwhen she was rescued in February this year.
Signs that Ese had entered her third trimester emerged on May 12 during the hearing of an application for her evidence to be taken in camera.
Justice Ajiya Hyeladzira Nganjiwa had granted the application and requested that she should be led in evidence in his chambers on June 2 when the case was expected to resume.
However, prosecution counsel, Mr. James Anata applied to stand down her evidence because of her condition.
Daily Sun gathered that Ese Oruru experienced labour pangs yesterday morning at a temporary residence located at Bayelsa State Officers Mess and was, subsequently, rushed to the Government House Clinic where she was delivered of a baby girl.
She was initially billed to be taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, but a strike by resident doctors and other medical personnel compelled her parents and Police authorities to take her to Government House Clinic. Her father, Mr. Charles Oruru, who confirmed the news, said the family was grateful to God that she gave birth safely.
“Yes, Ese gave birth this afternoon to a baby girl. We thank God that she put to bed safely. She and the baby are in good condition,” he said.
Mr. Kizito Andah of Kindling Hope Across Nigeria and Child Protection Network, who also confirmed the news, said it was necessary for Ese’s family and supporters to thank God for her safe birth.
He dismissed calls from some youths in the state that a DNA test be conducted on the baby. Andah said the family was in a happy mood and that was all that mattered.
Meanwhile, there was restriction to Government House Clinic yesterday to prevent people from visiting the new mother and her baby.
