The Equality Movement (TEM), a political advocacy group, has endorsed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid to become the President of the 10th Senate, stating that he has the necessary leadership qualities to guide the Senate.
According to Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf Ajiji, the leader of the movement, Senator Uzor Kalu is a “sensible and reasonable politician” with the capacity to mobilise the 10th Senate to work together towards a common goal that will benefit the nation.
Garba Noma, the Publicity Secretary of TEM, released a press statement indicating that if Kalu emerged as the Senate President, he could help unify the South East behind the APC and reduce tension in the sub-region.
“Our Movement had earlier issued a statement campaigning for the Senate President to be zoned to the South East in the interest of equity and fairness and the person we had in mind for the position was actually Senator Uzor Kalu,” the statement read.
“Since he has personally made a commitment to venture into the race, we have no other option than to rally behind him.”
The statement further explained that Kalu’s achievements as a successful businessman and politician make him the ideal candidate for the position of Senate President.
“He is first among equals… Senator Uzor Kalu is a patriot, and his commitment to Nigeria is overwhelming as demonstrated by his capacity to build bridges of friendship across the country from Maiduguri to Lagos and from Sokoto to Taraba.”
TEM has appealed to Senators-elect to put aside personal and political inclinations and prioritise national interest by supporting Senator Uzor Kalu, who they describe as the best candidate for the job.
