From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

Senator representing Enugu West, Osita Ngwu, has promised to provide personal protective equipment, training and other firefighting gear to establishments across his constituency to boost the performance of Enugu State Fire and Rescue Service. He spoke when the director of the organisation, Okwudiri Oha, led his management team on a courtesy visit to the senator in Enugu on January 8.

He applauded Governor Peter Mbah for his commitment to fire safety through massive support for the state fire service. He noted that, as a key player in the oil and gas sector, he understood the importance of a well-funded fire service and thus would add his support to the establishment:

“Enugu State Fire Service has been very active in doing their job; which can be attested by all. I want to appreciate our governor for his commitment towards the establishment as well as the state.

“I vividly understand the importance of having a very equipped and dedicated Fire Service system and thus, would support the establishment across my constituency in my own little way.”

Director of the State Fire and Rescue Service, Oha, commended the senator for his commitment to giving his constituency and Enugu State, effective representation in the National Assembly: “We are here to also solicit that you use your good office to push a bill that will call for a recognition of State Fire Services in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We believe that a partnership with our National Assembly members would increase our service delivery.”
