Against the backdrop of the present economic situation in the country and other anti-labour policies, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has assured its members that their rights will be protected.

The President of NUEE, Adebiyi Adeyeye

in an interview with Daily Sun Workforce,  vowed that the union would fight for the members’ rights, fair wages, safe working conditions, and social justice.

“I stand in solidarity with you, united in our quest for a better world where labor is respected, valued, and rewarded,” he said.

He reiterated that his position as the union’s president is to vehemently show solidarity and support for the marginalized, oppressed and silenced members of the union, most especially, in the Distribution Companies (DisCos).

He noted, “Today, I celebrate you! I recognize your hard work, dedication, and contributions to our society. Your labour builds our communities, drives our economies, and improves our lives.

Adeyeye acknowledged the long hours, the struggles, and the sacrifices workers in the sector make every day.

He reasoned that work takes toll on their physical and mental health, families, and  well-being.

“Your commitment before, during and after the recent National Delegate Conference at Enugu, And I want you to know that I value and appreciate everything you do,” he stated.

The NUEE President further charged that the electricity workers should see themselves as the backbone of the modern society, “your hard work and dedication keep the lights on and our communities thriving,” he said adding that such “comes with great responsibility.”

“Always prioritize safety, not just for yourselves, but for the public you serve. Take pride in your work and ensure that every connection, every wire, and every system is secure and reliable,” he stated.

Emphasizing the importance of the electricity workers in the nation, the new NUEE President said workers should understand that labour goes beyond a mere job, but a vital service that impacts lives.

“Be diligent, efficient, and courteous in your interactions with customers.

“Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and best practices to provide the best possible service. Your expertise is crucial to powering our homes, hospitals, schools, and businesses,” he expressed.

He equally warned, “never compromise on quality and integrity, and always adhere to ethical standards. Your work is a testament to your character and professionalism.

“You are the driving force behind our progress, you are the true champions of our society.”
