Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, voted at Eiyekole Polling Unit, St. Stephen Primary School, on Lagos Island.

The governor arrived at the poll unit alongside his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu at 10:12 and voted at 10:18am.

After exercising his franchise, he spoke with journalists, emphasising that the process was not meant to be violent.

He said: “I’m happy with the turnout of voters. We can see that INEC came out in time.

“I think it is time for us as a people to see this process as not meant to be a process for violence. This contest is about peace, progress and prosperity of our state and the country as a whole.

“I advise everyone to conduct themselves as a family.”

Commenting on a viral video on social media over alleged vote suppression, the governor said, he would not comment on it as it was unverifiable.

“We have seen a disturbing video which is not verifiable. I can’t comment on that, but so far this election has been calm.

“All our security agencies are vigilant and it is devoid of acrimony and intimidation; that is acceptable.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, has described the exercise as hitch-free and faster compared to the presidential and National Assembly election held a few weeks ago.

Fashola, a former governor of the state, arrived at his Polling Unit 002, at State Junior Grammar School, Onitolo, off Eric Moore in Surulere LGA at exactly 11.30 am and exercised his franchise in less than ten minutes.

Answering questions from journalist, the minister said it was still too early to air his view on the turnout of voters. He described the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) as an institution that was conducting elections across the country with very large and massive territories hence the need to make a healthy critic and inspire them to do better.
