Director-General of the South East Governors Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife, yesterday rallied support for the five governors of the region with a view to engendering sustainable economic development and security of the zone.

The former lawmaker, who represented Anambra Central senatorial district in the 9th Senate made the call during the 40th anniversary of Knights of St. John International (KSJI) in Awka, where she was bestowed with a special award for philanthropy.

Outlining her agenda for overcoming the challenges hampering the zone’s development, Ekwunife explained that she would deploy her legislative experience to ensure that the South-East Governors achieve their common goal of revamping the education, health, transportation, security and power sectors.

She emphasised on efforts by the governors to end insecurity in the Southeast and stressed that the zone’s leaders have demonstrated a high level of commitment towards security and economic recovery.

Ekwunife noted that no country could develop beyond its investment in the educational sector.

She also urged the church to shun discrimination among candidates irrespective of their political parties, adding that a political party is akin to a vehicle for the objective of attaining power.

“I offered the best and most impactful representation in the National Assembly and I’m not regretting not returning to the floor of the Senate because the people of Anambra Central will soon see the difference,” Ekwunife said.

Earlier, Chief Pete Ibida, the co-chairman of the occasion, described Ekwunife as a worthy lady of KSJI who has left her footprints on the sands of time through exceptional representation.

The immediate past Majority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly noted that the country would soon begin to witness the efforts of Ekwunife working closely with the South East governors in achieving a shared economic prosperity in the region.
