• As 91 students bag first class

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye, former Ekiti State Governor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Pharmacist and former Minister of Health, Prince Julius Adeluyi and Businesswoman and philanthropist, Mrs Folorunso Alakija, are the distingiushed Nigerians to be honoured with doctorate degrees by the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) at the University’s 28th Convocation.

Also, 10,894 students from various disciplines across all faculties will graduate from the University.

The institution’s Vice Chancellor and Prof of Industrial Chemistry, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, disclosed this on Monday, in Ado-Ekiti, during a media briefing heralding the convocation ceremony billed to hold April 3 and 4.

Olanipekun said 91 students would bag First Class, 3,262 for Second Class Upper Division, 6,411 to be conferred Second Class Lower Division, 747 Third Class and 4 with Pass

According to him, the 10,894 graduands comprises 224 Diploma students, 4,400 First Degree students, 5,359 Directorate of Continuity Education Programmes (DCEP) students and 756 Part-time students.

Others are, 155 students of College of Postgraduate Studies comprising 73 Ph.D. students, 81 Masters students and 1 Post Graduate Diploma student.

Olanipekun said Pastor Adeboye would be decorated with Doctor of Science(Honoris Causa) Adebayo to bag Doctor of Laws(Honoris Causa), Adeluyi to be conferred Doctor of Laws( Honoris Causa) and Alakija Doctor of Business Administration(Honoris Causa).

He noted that the four personalities who have been screened by the Senate were nominated based on their contributions to the education sector and their positive impact in the society

He hinted that a total number of 16 Academic Programmes have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence with effect from 2023/2024 academic session.

According to him, the programmes include, “B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Science, B.Sc. Medical Biochemistry, B.Sc. Mass Communication, B.Ed. Health Education, B.Sc. Peace and Conflict Resolution, B.Sc. Social Work, B.Sc. Intelligence and Security Studies, B.Sc. International Relations, B.Sc. International Relations and B.Sc. Public Administration.

“Others are: Ph.D. Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ph.D. Paediatrics and Child Health, Ph.D. Medicine, Ph.D. Surgery and Ph.D. Public Health.

Olanipekun stated that the former Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, will deliver the convocation lecture titled “The Future of Nigerian University System” on April 2.

Others are the investiture of the New Chancellor, award of Sub-Degree and First degree and presentation of prizes on April 3 while the grand finale of the ceremony comes up on Thursday, 4th April, 2024
