The Ekiti State Police Command has rounded up 40 suspected armed robbers, murderers and kidnappers, recovering 15 arms and ammunition from their hideouts across the state. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdullahi Chafe, said the command would continue to wage vigorous war against crimes, promising that criminals terrorising the state would be tracked down and made to face the full wrath of law.
He disclosed that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Commander, Salihu Muhammed, with his operatives arrested five suspected armed robbers and murderers: “The gang invaded Oyah Orete Camp, Ijan-Ekiti, and robbed the occupants of their valuables while one Ramon was shot dead. Others suspects are identified as Sola, Adedayo, Lasisi Oba, Oluwafemi. We recovered two cut-to-size single and an empty shell of cartridge ammunition.
“The SARS operatives also engaged armed group in gun battle when they invaded Oke Ureje community in Odo Ado-Ekiti. They raided three houses and robbed the occupants of valuables including two mobile phones, recharge cards and cash sum.
“The robbers shot an Ado-Ekiti chief, but not dead. The robbers proceed to a nearby petrol station and robbed the station’s civilian security guard, one Isah, of an amount of money.
“The suspects identified are Owoeye, Abbey, Busayo, Laisi and Tunde.”
Chafe said the SARS operatives with the Ilawe Division on stop-and-search along Ilawe/Erijiyan Road arrested a suspect in possession of a locally made pistol:
“The suspect confessed to have previously committed a crime of armed robbery and the gun in his possession. We recovered the pistol.
“Five suspected armed robbers were intercepted along Efon/Alaaye/Ijebu Jesa Highway on a motorcycle. In the course of searching, three of the gang members ran into the bush. One of the suspects, Elle of Efon Alaaye, was found in possession of a pump action with three live cartridge and two packets of explosive knockout.
“They confessed as a gang of armed robbers terrorising Efon Alaaye/Okemesi Ekiti, Ega Oke highways and the environs.
The suspects are Elle, Michael and Oni. We recovered two packets of explosives knockout, a Bajaj motorcycle and three live cartridges. The suspects will soon be charged to court.”
