Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, yesterday, apologised for the rowdy session at Monday’s plenary during which three lawmakers were suspended.

The speaker had suspended three lawmakers indefinitely for allegedly plotting to impeach him and other principal council members.

The suspended lawmakers are Okogbe Donald, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akoko-Edo II, Addeh Isibor, All Progressives Congress, Esan North East I and Iyamu Bright, PDP, Orhionnwon II.

He also accused them of bringing native doctors to the House on May 1 for alleged fetish purposes.

“I wish to apologise to the staff of this Assembly for what happened on Monday during plenary. It was not our intention to create tension in the House.

“I am sure this is not the first time you are experiencing such. We promise it will not happen again. This apology is because we hold you in high esteem,” Agbebaku said.

Meanwhile, it was learnt other members of the Assembly met with the suspended members for several hours to try and find a solution to the problem and ensure the three members rejoin the House.

One of the members said the idea behind the meeting was to find a way of lifting the suspension of the three members.

“We met today (yesterday) to find a way of lifting the suspension on the three members. There will be a meeting tomorrow and hopefully the suspension will be lifted on Monday at plenary.

“We all agreed the suspension is not constitutional and it has put the House in disrepute,” he said.
