The palace of the late traditional ruler of Umuezeokaoha community was set on fire by arsonists just three days before his burial.

The monarch, Igboke Ewa was shot dead by gunmen in the palace during the 2023 electioneering.

His assailants shot him repeatedly in the night when they invaded the compound.

Following the tragic incident, some individuals were apprehended by security agents, and the body of the monarch was placed in the morgue. However, despite the unfortunate circumstances, the family members recently announced that the burial would proceed as scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the palace fire incident to Daily Sun in Abakaliki. He stated, “Yes, I received a report regarding a fire incident at the late monarch’s house. I will further investigate the matter to ascertain the details of what transpired.”

Despite the setback, a source within the community mentioned that the family remains determined to proceed with their father’s burial. The source added that the burial arrangements are nearly concluded.
