The Cross River state All Progressive Congress (APC), Bar. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, has called on their members and residents of Cross River state to embark on fasting and prayers to avert a possible truncation of the government transition on May 29, 2023.

Eba, who made the call at press briefing held in Calabar on Thursday, said it has become imperative following calls from some quarters that the just-conclud Presidential election should be cancelled for some inscrutable reasons, adding that such statements coming from prominent Nigerians and politicians concerning the elections are divisive and inciting capable of tearing the country apart.

According to him, it has become neccessary for the Department of State Security (DSS), to with immediate effect, invite the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) , Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, for speaking against swearing in of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

He said: “Nobody should be allowed to truncate Nigeria’s hard earned democracy. The statement created to Labour Party VP candidate that there will be no swearing in was too strong, and appears to have some coloration. We, hereby call for prayers and fasting from our party
members and citizens to avert such calls aimed at truncation our transition.

“We call it circumstantial evidence in law. It might not be firm, it might not be correct, but that nexus that connects calls for clarification on whether he intends to get a Court injunction.”

On th outcome of the general elections in the state, the party chairman said: “The election was a referendum that ethnicity does not have a place in our politics and that was why the reflection of the result.

“The result to us was a consensus reached by Cross Riverians to show that the initial tension which was along the lines of the Efiks, Ejaghams, Quas and whatever did not have any place in our politics.

“It was a clear demonstration of our people not to play politics of religious divide or that of indigenes and non-indigenes. Therefore, the incoming administration will be magnanimous in victory and will extend a hand of fellowship to other political parties.

“It is going to be an all inclusive government where people from Labour Party, PDP, and other parties will be brought in and the best among whom will be recruited to take the state to the next level.”
