The Cross River State chapter of the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria has elected its pioneer youth assembly.

The election follows a state convention which produced 18 ambassadors representing the eighteen local government areas of the state.

The convention also produced the ward assembly which comprises representatives from all the 196 wards of the state.

Following the convention, Ambassador Bassey Nton emerged as speaker of the first assembly while Angela Effefiom was elected the deputy speaker.

In his address, the pioneer speaker of the assembly Ambassador Bassey Nton said the assembly will prioritize the actualization of the Sustainable Development Goals at the ward level.

He also promised that the new assembly will also ensure that youths across the state are self-employed through digital skills.

Earlier, the outcome state chairman of the NYAN Cross River State Chapter and chairman of the electoral committee Eugene Ojua said the assembly was established in 2019 in the state.

He stresses that the vision of the assembly is to “unlock the full potential of our youth and create a Nigeria where every young person can thrive.

“We also hope to provide a platform for the expression of the utmost desires of the Nigerian youth,” he said.
