The Gujiba Local Government Council in Yobe has promised to ensure security for officials of the National Population Commission (NPC) conducting Enumeration Area Demarcation(EAD) in the area.

The Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Dala Mala, gave the assurance in Gujiba ward on Wednesday while inspecting the conduct of the EAD in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gujiba is one of the areas battling with insurgency in the state.

Mala who was also in Mutai, Wagir, Buni-Gari, Buni-Yadi, and Gujba wards, said he visited the areas for on-the-spot-assessment of the exercise and to encourage the officials to perform their duties effectively.

He charged them to ensure that they cover each building billed for enumeration and report to the council any problem they encountered.

The chairman expressed satisfaction with the performance of the officials and assured them of the council’s continued support for the successful completion of the exercise.

Mr Wadu Elesha, NPC’s Supervisor in the area, thanked the chairman for the visit and pledged to carry out meticulous and accurate enumeration in the area.

NAN also reports that the EAD is being conducted by the NPC in preparation for the upcoming national population census.

The exercise involves numbering of houses, making enquiries about households and mapping enumeration and registration areas, in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission.(NAN)
