Outgoing Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Nations and the Commonwealth, Sarafa Isola, has been commended for his exemplary service and dedication to duty during his tour of service in the United Kingdom.

Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland, made the commendation in a letter she personally signed, noting that Isola’s “tireless efforts have contributed to the strengthened bond between Nigeria and the Commonwealth.”

Scotland expressed her gratitude to the envoy for his role while serving as Chair of the Accreditation Committee of the Commonwealth just as she congratulated him for successfully completing his tenure.

She said Isola who headed the Accreditation Committee for two consecutive years, “played a crucial role in enhancing the accreditation process” and ensured that new associations reflect the values and the principles of the Commonwealth. “The Committee has benefited from your leadership, guidance, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of the Secretariat,” she said.

She told the High Commissioner that “as a long-standing and valued member of the Commonwealth family and one of Africa’s largest democracies,” his “legacy of active participation and meaningful interventions in meeting and ministerial events, as well as in ensuring Nigeria maintained its position as one of the top eight contributors, will not be forgotten and will serve as a model for others.”

While offering her “heartfelt congratulations” to Isola on the successful completion of his term, and “personal gratitude” for his “sustained support and encouragement,” Scotland said: “You have represented your country with dignity and honour and your contributions have left an indelible mark. I have no doubt that your next endeavor will be equally impactful and successful, and I wish you and your family the very best.”
