Abuja based Chidubem Amassiani and Etoro Bassey from Akwa Ibom State were outstanding at the weekend following their excellent performance at the Grand finale of the 2023 Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Junior Tennis Championship held at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Lagos.

Playing in the boys U12 category at the Lord Rumen’s centre court, Chidubem defeated Wisdom Effiong from Akwa Ibom State 9-3 to emerge victorious while Etoro claimed victory over Eunice Irolumun from Benue State in the Girls U16 class by beating her 9-5

Chidubem and Etoro also emerged as the tournament’s most improved players in the boys and girls categories respectively.

In other categories, Aina Henry (Ondo State) beat Joseph Ogunyemi (Lagos) 9-0 to win the boys U16 event while the boys U14 title went to David Edwards (Lagos), younger brother of the sensational Marylove Edwards, the current and CBN Senior Tennis Open women’s Champion who stopped Seyi Ogunsakin (Ekiti State) 9-3. Ogunsakin was a victim of many unforced errors in the encounter

 Aina Goodnesws (Ekiti) defeated her Ekiti State counterpart, Gloria Samuel 9-4 to win the girls U14 trophy while Mutiu Atitola smiled home with the girls U12 trophy following her 9-6 victory over Roseline Nana in an all Lagos affair.
