The Delta State chapter of Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has called for the prosecution of one Tete Pippah who was alleged to have murdered one Jeremiah Oghoveta, a ward Chairmanship aspirant in Okwagbe, Ward 3, Ughelli South Council area during the May 5, 2018, elections.
Making the demand for justice in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri, on Tuesday, the body urged the state Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustapha and other relevant security agents to declare the suspected killer wanted in order to bring him to justice.
The body in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Prince Kehinde Taiga, expressed disappointment over the silence that had enveloped the killing of deceased in brood day light on an open field in the presence of scores of APC party members while the election was still in progress.
Reaffirming that the political aspiration of any Nigerian not worth the blood of an individual, the group noted that the earlier the Inspector General of Police IGP Ibrahim Idris and other Service Chiefs act swiftly to address the ugly menace of political killings before 2019 general election, the better for the nation.
According to him, “With regrets and heavy burden in our heart, we the members of Delta state chapter of CDHR expressed our deepest sympathy with the family of Oghoveta on the demise of their son, who was gruesomely murdered by one Tete Pippah during the APC Ward Congress held over two weeks ago.
“What remained baffling was how an heinous crime committed in full glare of APC party members in Okwagbe community as well as security agents especially police and SSS who are on monitoring duty of the Ward Congress could allow the suspect escape from the scene and up till now nobody is saying anything about bring the perpetrator to book”.
“We are using this medium to call on the state Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustapha and other sister security agents to join hands together and fish out the suspected killer presently on the run with the aim of ensuring that justice is done so as to serve as deterrent in the future”.
