The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced the appointment of Prof. Samson Adetunji Fatokun, as its new General Secretary.

Prof. Fatokun is expected to succeed Joseph Daramola, who will exit office on 31st May 2023, following the expiration of his stipulated tenure and having served CAN for 11 years.

CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, in a statement, on Tuesday, described Prof. Fatokun as a distinguished scholar and professor of Christian Religious Studies at the University of Ibadan, and he brings to the position, a wealth of experience in church leadership and administration, as well as a deep commitment to the Christian faith.

He expressed confidence in the ability and capacity of Prof. Fatokun, to continue to uphold the values and principles of CAN and work tirelessly to advance the cause of Christianity and promote religious harmony in Nigeria.

The CAN President extended gratitude to Joseph Daramola, for his dedicated service to CAN, adding that his leadership and contributions have been invaluable, and wished him well in future endeavours.

He prayed for Prof. Fatokun as he assumes his new role, that God will grant him wisdom, strength, and grace to lead with integrity, promote unity among Christians and advance the cause of Christ in Nigeria.

CAN President further explained that Prof. Fatokun is a Professor of Church History, Doctrinal Theology and Pentecostal Studies, Department of Religious Studies, University of Ibadan, and that he emerged from the CPFN/PFN Bloc of CAN to replace Joseph Daramola who will officially rotate out as the General Secretary of CAN on May 31, 2023 after a long record of service.

He described Prof. Fatokun as an Apostle in the Body of Christ, being a member of the General Council of The Apostolic Church Nigeria (TACN), First Classical Pentecostal Denomination and Mother of Apostolic Pentecostal Denominations as far as Nigerian Pentecostal Church History is Concerned.

Prof Fatokun is the Director, Directorate of Archives, Research and Development, TACN LAWNA Territory, and Chairman, Board of Trustees Samuel Adegboye University, (Glorious Vision University), Ogwa, Edo State.
