CAF Champions League: Enyimba won’t be in exile for too long –Nwanganga

By George Aluo

ABIA State Sports Commissioner, Chinwe Nwanganga has assured that Enyimba which is to host Vipers of Uganda next weekend in Port Harcourt in the CAF Champions League would return to her Aba home in the next round of the competition should she scale the first round hurdle.

Nwanganga told Daily Sunsports yesterday that the Peoples Elephants wont be in exile for too long as the Enyimba Stadium that is undergoing renovation would be ready before the next round of matches.

“One thing I can assure fans of the club and Abians generally is that Enyimba’s exile wont be long. As we speak, the contractor handling the project, Monimichelle, has completed the stadium drainage, soft base and ready to lay the turf. The local content is ready, what is now left is the materials to be imported and government is on top of the situation. The contractor is doing very well and we are confident he will deliver the project in good time for Enyimba to play there once we get past Viper,”  Nwanganga said.

The sports commissioner said he is confident Enyimba who lost the first leg of the game against Viper in Kampala by 0-1 last week, will get better with every match. He pointed  out the players were yet  to hit full fitness in spite of the Super 4 matches they played before the Kampala outing.

“We went to Kampala with a team that is yet to find its rhythm and fitness. All that will change  now that the domestic league is about to start. Enyimba will get better with every game and I don’t see Vipers surviving in Port Harcourt,” he said.

Enyimba it is recalled  won the CAF Champions League back to back in 2003 and 2004. The team is the only Nigerian side that has won the trophy which is Africa’s number  one club diadem.
