Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface has sustained an injury while in training, with the Africa Cup of Nations just days away, Soccernet.ng reports.

Jose Peseiro invited a strong list of 25 players, and Bayer Leverkusen star man Boniface made the cut after a superb start to the Bundesliga season that has seen him register ten goals and seven assists in 16 appearances.

Because of the way Peseiro sets up his team, Boniface would be expected to partner Victor Osimhen in the attack.

However, that partnership may not come to fruition, as Oluwashina Okeleji reports that Boniface is struggling with a muscle injury he picked up in training. This injury kept him out of the Super Eagles’ first preparatory fixture against local Abu Dhabi club, Al Gharib and left him sidelined for the second game against Guinea.

The level of Boniface’s injury is yet to be ascertained, but according to owngoalnigeria.com, Boniface has had a scan while he would be returning to Germany, where he would begin treatment for the groin injury that is expected to keep him out for six weeks.

The striker missed the Super Eagles’ two text games in Abu Dhabi and has not trained with the team as well.
