Anglican Diocese of Lagos Bishop, Gabriel Okupevi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resuscitate the ailing economy. He urged Nigerians to be patience with the government, saying the economy will soon be revived.

Okupevi made the call during the opening ceremony of the third Session of 35th Synod of Diocese of Lagos, yesterday, with the theme: “Preach the Word, be prepared in season and out of season.”  

While calling on the country’s leadership to reshape the economy and put in place policies that will impact positively on the people, he said God will soon change things in Nigeria.

He said: “We will continue to advise the country’s leadership because people are hungry and angry, and things are not moving well as expected.

“We are calling on our leaders to help us, so that we will not die of hunger. Also, we call on the government to end the insecurity in the country and the current fuel scarcity, as well.”

The Anglican bishop said when the gospel is preached, many will turn to the Lord and imbibe the morality and spirituality of Jesus Christ. This, he said, will help the country to progress in the right direction.

He lamented the killings in other countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan among others and prayed that peace will continue to reign in Nigeria, and return to those countries too.

Okupevi disclosed the Anglican Church has placed over 150 elderly persons on its payroll where certain amount is paid to them monthly.

He said no fewer than 15 youths have also been empowered with N400,000 while 300 persons are being taking care of by the church.

According to him, wealthy members also visited various branches of the church to give palliative to assist the less privileged members of the church.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was represented, on the occasion, by the Secretary to the Government, Bimbo Salu-Hudeyin, with other House Assembly members.
