President of Vision Africa International, and African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Abia State, Bishop Sunday Onuoha and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart,  Dr. Alex Otti, have described the death of Abia State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Uche Ikonne as a rude shock.

In a statement, Bishop Onuoha said Professor Ikonne was an accomplished scolar with a wealth of experience in optometry with vision to serve Abia as Governor.

Bishop Onuoha extended his condolences to Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the PDP and the Ikonne family.

Otti, in a statement by his media adviser, Ferdinand Ekeoma, recalled the exciting exchange of brotherly pleasantries during his last encounter with Prof. Ikonne at a public function, and regretted that death snatched him away from his family and loved ones,  just a few days after he issued a press release praying and wishing him quick recovery and return to the campaign trail.

“To learn that Prof. Ikonne has passed on a few days after we prayed and wished him quick recovery and return to the campaign trail, is to say the least very unfortunate, but we cannot question God who decided to call him back home at this time.

The ex bank Chief while sending his heartfelt condolences to Prof. Ikonne’s family, Otti said he has suspended his campaigns for the rest of the week.

He has also asked that the LP presidential rally billed for next Tuesday be moved to the end of the week as a mark of honour to the late Prof. Ikonne.
