Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State, has inducted 80 new medical doctors, bringing the total number of graduates from its medical program to 629 since its establishment.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba expressed concern over the shortage of medical doctors in Nigeria due to the “JAPA syndrome,” which has led to a doctor-patient ratio of 1:5000, significantly below the World Health Organization’s recommended ratio of 1:600. He commended the graduates for their perseverance and urged them to contribute to the nation’s development and the welfare of humanity.

Prof. Ayuba highlighted the university’s unique position in training medical doctors and emphasized the importance of addressing the manpower gap in the medical field. He encouraged the inductees to remain in Nigeria and help improve the healthcare system.

The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the university as it inducted the 2016/2017 set of medical doctors and dentists. Prof. Ayuba congratulated the graduates, noting the higher proportion of female doctors (46 out of 80). He emphasized the importance of adhering to professional ethics and core values instilled during their studies.

President of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev Dr Job Ayuba Bagat, expressed confidence in the graduates’ abilities and challenged them to continuously seek knowledge and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.

Medical Elder Prof. Benjamin Ugwu urged the inductees to treat patients with courtesy, kindness, respect, and love.

Provost of the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Haroun Isah, reminded the graduates to uphold the tenets of the medical profession and acknowledged the support of families, educators, and well-wishers in their success.
