From Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has directed the immediate suspension of the election of a new executive of the Oguan Youth Congress (OYC).

The Oguan kingdom comprises 29 Epie and Atissa communities in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state.

Tension had gripped Yenagoa, the state capital, Wednesday evening following the undemocratic posture being taken by some persons in the bid to foist a candidate on the people.

A Federal lawmaker is believed to be behind the move to scuttle the democratic process and all attempts to call him to order had proved abortive.

The governor’s directive is a tense sequel to the factional crisis that has engulfed the kingdom’s youth body, resulting in in the state capital.

The statement also said the governor directed the police and other security agencies to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order as a result of the feud.
