Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has pledged to maintain a cordial relationship with traditional rulers in the state to improve the security of lives and property of citizens and consolidate on development of the grassroots.

Mohammed made the pledge on Thursday when the Chairman of the State Traditional Council of Emirs, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, the Emir of Bauchi, led other First Class Emirs to Government House, Bauchi, to congratulate him on the decision of the Supreme Court that affirmed his reelection.

The governor said he was honoured by the congratulatory visit, assuring them that his administration would continue to accord the traditional institution the respect it deserves.

“You have always been with us and you maintained an impartial position throughout the electioneering process,” he said.

“We had a clear understanding that we would not dilute your impartiality by making you involved in politics and you have stood out as the most impartial traditional rulers in the entire north east.

“You did it with lots of strategy and did not run from the opposition but prayed for a peaceful process”

The governor said detractors expected his administration to be violent going by his traditional title of Kauran Bauchi and the background of the main opposition candidate Abubakar Saddigue.

“We have shamed those people who think we are violent and our people have given us another mandate for four years,” he said.

“Our position is that Bauchi is greater than everyone and I assure you that we will make Bauchi better than where we found it.

“The traditional institution is where I come from and I am associated with you.

“I am not doing anything for you to be praised but I want to leave landmarks for generations yet unborn”

Governor Mohammed said he met the traditional institution in dejected and tattered state and took steps to improving it.

“We started from village head to district heads, now we are addressing the first class emirs,” he said.

“I will make sure I don’t disappoint you, I will make sure I don’t bring my personal interest in what we are doing.

“Bauchi State is lagging behind but we tried to leapfrog it and today we are an emerging state.

“Even the opposition is acknowledging the modest contributions we are making.

“We thank you for the support and I pledge my loyalty to you on behalf of the State Assembly and the good people of the state”

He said security remains a major concern of his administration and would partner with tradtianal institutions and other stakeholders to address it.

Governor Mohammed thanked the traditional rulers for the role they had been playing in their domains to maintain the peace.

“We will recruit vigilante from all the emirates to make sure that our state is secure,” he assured.

Earlier in his remark, the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Adamu, who led emirs of the six emirate councils of Dass, Jammare, Katagum, Misau, and Ningi on the visit, hoped the judgment of the Supreme Court would be used for to bring further peace and development to the state.

“We are here to pledge our support to the governor always in order for the administration to bring more good dividends of democracy to our people,” he stated.

“We are praying for sound health and peace for the governor to utilse the abundant wealth of human and material resources that our state is blessed with.

“We plea with him to forgive us, especially traditional rulers, because we are always failing him and we we will make amends”

The emir thanked governor for giving cars and renovating places of traditional rulers,

“We pray to God to bless you with wisdom for greater impact in the journey ahead,” he said.
