The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has announced the suspension of 100 of its members for working against the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

According to the suspension letter which was issued by the secretary of the APC in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area (LGA) Haruna Birgina Hina, reports of anti-party activities had been filed against the suspended members by the leaders of the party in their respective wards of the LGA.

He explained that the suspended persons include five members in Hinna, seven in Gwani/Shinga/Wade, 11 in Kuri/Lano/Lambam, 11 in Nono/Kunuwal/Wuro Berdaka as well as 11 in Deba wards of the LGA.

According to him, others are four in Jagali North, 16 in Jagali South, nine in Kanawa/Wajari as well as 16 in Kwadon/Liji/Kurba, and 10 in Zambuk/Kwali wards.

Haruna added that the suspension is with immediate effect and that the members involved are directed to appear before a disciplinary committee set up by the various wards.

When contacted for comments on the development, the state publicity secretary of the party, Mr. Moses Kyari appeared to have nothing to say about the issue as he stopped responding to calls and text messages from this reporter.

With less than a month to the general elections, the APC in Gombe State has been hit with a series of defections, losing key officials and other members including Alhaji Abubakar Mu’azu Hassan, a close ally of the state governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to the opposition.

The most recent defection that the APC is that of the district head of Bodor in Funakaye Local Government Area LGA of the state, Alhaji Sale Tinka who switched to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Gombe.
