A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Mayaki, has expressed concern over an alleged plot by the opposition parties to stall the inauguration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mayaki, who is also the Chairman of the Edo State Media and Publicity Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, accused the opposition parties, including Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, of planning to illegally supplant the democratic choice of Nigerians in the presidential elections.

Mayaki warned that such actions would throw the country into an intractable crisis and force ordinary Nigerians to “defend their choice by whatever means against the usurpers who are unwilling to make peace with their defeat.”

He alleged that the opposition parties were orchestrating a diabolic arrangement to truncate the country’s democracy, and claimed that the Labour Party had now rejoined its parent party, the PDP, and together they were plotting an unconstitutional overthrow of the ballots.

According to Mayaki, the opposition parties were inciting Nigerians to protest and calling for the annulment of the election, as well as spreading hate and inciting Nigerians to make sure that the President-elect was not sworn in. He also accused them of attacking the institutions of the state, such as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary, in a dangerous attempt to intimidate the institution and sow the seeds of nonexistent bias in the mind of its headless mob.

Mayaki stated that Nigerians had spoken through the ballot and had chosen their next leader in the person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima. He warned that any attempt by enemies of the country to derail Nigeria’s democracy would be resisted.

“The ambition of a few persons should not be a threat to the peaceful coexistence and unity of the country. We will resist any attempt to truncate democracy in Nigeria,” Mayaki said.

It is important to note that these are allegations made by Mayaki, and there has been no response from the opposition parties mentioned. It is also important to respect the rule of law and the democratic process in Nigeria, and any grievances should be addressed through appropriate legal channels.
