Ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra state, a coalition of women groups in the state has endorsed former aviation minister and aspirant on the platform of the Untied Progressive Party (UPP),Chief Osita Chidoka for the governorship position.

The women who were in Obosi, Chidoka’s hometown for a solidarity visit said the endorsement was the outcome of very wide consultations and extensive appraisal of all the aspirants in the governorship race.

The leader of the group, Lady Oge Agu said apart from Chidoka’s  “experience, proven capacity and track record of performance and integrity in public service” the decision of the women on whom to back for the election was also informed by his effort in championing the cause of the poor as well as his respect and value for women.

She said though other aspirants are also qualified in the sense that they are citizens of the state, none of them rivals Chidoka in “character, capacity, record of performance and sense of duty in public service”.

The women said it is on record that  Chidoka made Anambra state very proud with his performance as the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) where he turned around an outfit that was on the verge of being scrapped for low performance, into a world class agency, noting that they are confident that he would in the same vein deliver as governor of Anambra state.

“We mothers and daughters in Anambra believe in you. We believe in your character, capacity and sense of duty. We have confidence in your ability to deliver based on your proven track record of performance in public service and we are assured that you would not only live up to expectations, but also be a good role model for the next generation in our state”, the woman leaders stated.

The group also commended Chidoka for the respect and value he placed on women, which he demonstrated by being the first aspirant to appoint a woman as a campaign spokesperson, a sign that Anambra women would be accorded their rightful place under his administration.

Responding to their endorsement, he thanked the women for their support and assured them of his unflinching commitment to not only turn around the fortunes of the state, but also to run a transparent and all-inclusive government that would redirect the resources of the state for the overall good of the ordinary people.

Chidoka who is currently on tour of his campaign offices in the 326 electoral wards across the state had a brief stop-over at the Obosi Town Hall to further appreciate a gathering of women supporters before continuing with the tours.
