Suspected cultists kill female UNIZIK student

Five people were killed, while four were injured when a container fell off a truck on a bus conveying 10 people to a location.

The incident happened yesterday at Odumodu Junction, Umunya along Nteje – Onitsha Expressway at about 7:30pm.

Acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, RC Margaret Onabe, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that the accident occurred because that portion of the expressway was dilapidated.

“Two unidentified drivers of a Mitsubishi L300 bus (commercial) with registration number: XE245AWK and a commercial Daf/Leyland truck with number: T-19094LA were involved.

“According to eyewitness, the two vehicles were enroute to different locations; one to Awka and the other to Onitsha. The two vehicles got to the spot at same time and due to the weight of the truck, the container fell on the bus and crashed.

“Ten people comprising three male adults and seven female adults were involved in the crash. Five female adults were killed. Two male adults and two female adults sustained varying degrees of injuries and one male adult was rescued unhurt.

“FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje took the injured victims to Divine Care Hospital, Umunya for medical attention, while the dead victims were taken to Chira Hospital for doctors confirmation before deposition at New Jerusalem Mortuary, Nteje.

Also, suspected cultists have killed a female student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in Anambra State.

The student, whose name was given as Uche, was reportedly gunned down around Miracle Junction in Ifite village, Awka. She was said to be in 100 level.

According to sources, the deceased was hit by a bullet fired at a yet-to-be identified Keke NAPEP operator. The tricyclist was said to have dodged the bullet, which unfortunately hit the student said to be in Medical Laboratory Department.

The victim was said to be on her way to the market when the unfortunate incident happened.

The corpse has been moved to the morgue at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), (Amaku), Awka.

Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Toochukwu Ikéngà, confirmed the ugly incident, saying that efforts were being made to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
