Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assmbly, and former Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Adeolu Akande, have emphasised the importance of investing in self-development and community service.

They gave the urge in their separate addresses at the 60th anniversary lecture of Igboora High School in Oyo State, organised by the Igboora High School Old Students Association. The school was founded in 1963

Alli, who chaired the occasion, highlighted the need for citizens to contribute to their communities for overall development. He reaffirmed his commitment to excellent representation in the National Assembly and promised to fulfill his election campaign promises, including initiating a project for the school within 18 months.

Akande, the guest lecturer, stressed the significance of education and described it as the backbone of meaningful development. He encouraged individuals to invest in their children’s education, promoting a brighter future and helping solve societal challenges.

His words: There’s hope of better future in every investment on our children. Education is the solution to poverty, insecurity, environmental degradation and community development. The greatest road to success was hardwork and discipline. We embrace these and identify where we can contribute to our community,”

Both speakers urged citizens to engage in volunteering and support programmes to benefit society at large, emphasising that government alone cannot address all pressing issues.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including old students of Igboora High School, and concluded with the inauguration of 100 laptops facilitated by Akande for Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology in Igboora.
