Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has promised to sustain the payment of N15,000 to all corps members and N100,000 to those who are medical doctors across the state.
Alia made the pledge on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course at National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) permanent orientation camp, Wannune, Tarkar Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Alia commended the corps members for their demonstration of good conduct and high level of commitment, saluting their ability to integrate freely among themselves and keeping aside the diversities of their backgrounds.
He urged them to be diligent in carrying out all assignments given to them, and assured them adequate measures have been in place to ensure their security and safety in the state.
Governor Alia, who observed the enormous damage caused by erosion on the camp during his earlier visit, assigned Samuel Agule, an architect, to start construction of drainages immediately.
He applauded the NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Abe Ashumate, his management team and other camp officials for their exemplary leadership and care towards corps members.
He, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, declared the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation course for corps members deployed to Benue State closed.
Earlier, Ashumate, who described Governor Alia as the living and unwavering hope of Benue people, thanked him for the commencement of payment of N15,000 for corps members and N100,000 for graduates of medicine.
He reminded the governor of a Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation prepared by corps members for the construction of drainages on the camp and appealed to him to consider it.
Dankaro sought more cooperation from corps members’ employing institutions in Benue State towards the continuous commitment to the NYSC national policy in dealing with corps members, especially regarding the days reserved for Community Development Service (CDS).
