…Experiments with Omeruo, Ajayi for center back

Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau on Friday, Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro led the players on a tactical session with crosses into the box a priority.

Twenty one players, three goalkeepers and 18 outfielders – took part in the training session, including Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, who sat out Monday’s workout.

The players started the training session with warm-up exercises, stretching their bodies on the workout mats, and then jogged around the pitch twice, before warming up in the middle of the pitch.

After that the tactical session started, with the players working on crosses. The attackers and wingers were drilled to convert crosses from the fullbacks to goals.

The fullbacks were instructed to deliver high crosses into the box for Onuachu and when it was the turn of Terem Moffi, the emphasis was on low crosses.

West Brom’s Semi Ajayi and Leganes’ Kenneth Omeruo were paired together in central defence at the start of the tactical session to see if they could play together, while Daniel Bameyi and Bruno Onyemaechi were the right back and left-back respectively.

Peseiro later brought out Omeruo and experimented with Ajayi and Kevin Akpoguma as the two center backs.

Everything indicates that Francis Uzoho will start in goal against Guinea-Bissau considering that the goalkeepers’ trainer focused on him most during the workout and he was in between the posts throughout the tactical session.
