The Imo State chapter of Action Alliance (AA) has condemned last weekend’s kidnap of Maj-Gen Richard Duru (rtd) last in Orji community in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.

This is even as it said that its governorship candidate in the November 2023 election, Major-General Lincoln Ogunewe (rtd), had the solution to the seemingly intractable insecurity in the state.

The state Chairman of the party, Ifeanyi Okponwa Eze who decried the insecurity in the state, stated that the kidnap of the retired Army General  painted a horrific picture of the state of hopelessness that had bedeviled Imo State in the last three and half years of the current APC administration.

He said: “That is exactly why our great party, Action Alliance, has consistently maintained that the only solution to the insecurity in Imo State is our candidate, Major General Lincoln Ogunewe (rtd), a former No 2 officer in the Nigerian Army who retired meritoriously as Chief of Policy and Plans. With his experience as a former senior officer in the Department of Military Intelligence and Defense Adviser to the United Nations, Imo State will kiss insecurity goodbye for good after winning the Saturday   November 11, 2023 governorship election.”

It was learnt  that the victim, an elder brother of the immediate past Chairman of Imo State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Hon. Engr. Johnson Onunaka Duru, was appointed Chairman of Imo Security Organisation (ISO) by Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2021, but did not function in that position due to controversies surrounding the creation of the organisation.
