• As 141 students bag First Class

The management of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) is set to confer honourary doctorates on former Secretary- General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Emir of Lafia Bare-Bari, Justice Sidi Bage Mohammad 1, and Managing Director of BOVAS and Co. Ltd, Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, in appreciation of the various ways they have impacted the society.

The ABUAD’S Vice Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde disclosed this at a press briefing on Monday, heralding the 13th Anniversary and the 11th Convocation ceremonies of the institution slated to hold October 21, 2023 where 141 students would graduate with First Class out of the 1,668 graduating students.

Giving the breakdown of the class of degrees obtained by the graduands, she said 141 had First Class, 752 bagged Second Class Upper, 397 had Second Class Lower and 40 got Third Class.

Olarinde said : “The high point of this year’s graduation ceremony is the graduation of 1,668 students made up of 1,459 Bachelors and 209 Postgraduate students” across the Colleges of Engineering, Law, Medicine and Health Sciences, Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Postgraduate and Part-time.

On the honours, the VC said the three eminent personalities were nominated by the University’s Council and Senate “after a strict, rigorous and thorough as well as merit- based selection process.”

According to her, “Chief Emeka Anyaoku, is a seasoned diplomat and lover of quality and functional education. He will be decorated in appreciation of his sterling contributions to education and diplomacy.

” HRM, Justice Sidi Bage Mohammad 1, a committed Minister in the Temple of Justice, one of Nigeria’s foremost traditional rulers and a fervent believer in the Rules, will be decorated for his passion for education and for adorning the Bench with honour, dignity and character when he was on the Bench.

” On her part, Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, the innovative, courageous, enterprising and compassionate Businesswoman, who anchors her chain of businesses on discipline, contentment, diligence, industry, consideration for others and above all, the fear of God, is being honoured for her contributions in the sphere of business, especially her mode of service delivery within one of the most critical chains of service delivery in the Oil and Gas Industry.”

Olarinde said Anyaoku and Samson would be honoured with Doctor of Letters respectively while Bage would be honoured with Doctor of Law

The VC noted that the Convocation Lecture titled, ” Management of Diversity: A Major Challenge in Pluralistic Countries “, would be delivered on Friday by Anyaoku.
