• YPP not in alliance with LP – Pub Sec

From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

The Young Progressives Party (YPP), Abia chapter, has distanced herself from its chairman, Chimezie Nelson, over his acceptance to serve as an aide to a Labour Party (LP) Council boss in the state.

The transition committee Chairman of Umuahia North Local Gobernment Area, Victor Ikeji, recently appointed the YPP state chairman as a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Council Chairman.

In a release signed by Bestman Eruba, YPP state Publicity Secretary, the party said its leader in the state would meet soon to take a decision on the matter.

The release read in part, “The Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Abia State received with missed feelings the unfortunate news of the recent appointment of our State Chairman as Senior Special Assistant to the Transition Committee Chairman of the Umuahia North LGA, a development that has been misconstrued as the extinction of the party in the state.

“We wish to state categorically that the Young Progressives Party is not in any official alliance with the Labour Party and doesn’t intend to do so in the nearest future. We are a party with distinct manifesto, ideology and principles as enunciated in our constitution.

“Accordingly, the decision of an individual member of the party who in consideration of his private reasons has acted personally cannot be deemed as the collapse of the most prosperous party in Abia State.

“Consequently the State Working Committee will consult with leaders of our party to review the development and take appropriate action(s) in order to defend the image and the integrity of the party pursuant to the provisions of the party’s constitution.”

The party informed its supporters and members across the country that the YPP in Abia State is still very much intact and nothing can diminish her strength.
