Retired Secondary School Principal, Akparawa Ezekiel Paul who was kidnapped in his compound at Ikot Abasi Akpan in Mkpat Enin local government area of Akwa Ibom State last week, has regained his freedom after one week in captivity.

Paul was freed in the early hours of today (Saturday) by his abductors who earlier demanded for N20m ransom.

The elder brother of the victim who is an Arch Bishop in African Church said the abductors were still negotiating with family members and reduced the ransom to N5m till Saturday morning when he was freed.

“Akparawa Ezekiel was released early this morning by the kidnappers. We will take him to hospital for rest and treatment.

” We thank the police for their efforts and all those who have prayed with us throughout the difficult period for his safe release”

The victim was abducted in his compound at Ikot Abasi Akpan in Mkpat Enin local government area last Sunday by 7:00 AM while preparing for Mass at St. Pius X Parish.

Sources, who spoke to journalists, said he was ambushed in his compound and whisked away in a motor bike by the kidnappers numbering seven as they disappeared into the bush

It was gathered that the kidnapping squad has cells in Ikot Abasi Akpan, Ikot Obio Nso, Ndon Eyo and Ndon Utim and other adjourning villages along Ekparakwa – Etinan road .

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Akwa Ibom ASP Timfon John said the victim was released by his abductors in the early of Saturday

The Police spokesperson who did not mention whether the ransom was paid to the kidnappers explained that the victim has reunite with his family.

“The man has regained his freedom unhurt and has been reunited with his family,” she said.
