The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated food and non-food to the government of Gombe state for onward distribution to flood victims in the state.
The items donated include 10,000 bags of rice, 5000 blankets, 5000 mats, 3000 gallons of vegetable oil, and 5000 bundles of wrappers as well as 3000 Shadda material and 3000 children’s wear.
According to the Managing Director (MD) of the NEDC Mohammed Alkali, the gesture followed the declaration made by the commission during the World Humanitarian Day celebration that was recently held in Maiduguri the capital of Borno State.
“The commission made some pronouncements to support all the six states of the region in terms of Palliative through the Presidential Committee on Repatriation, Return, and Resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs),” he said while noting that the flood incidents in various communities across the Northeast region requires attention.
He added stating that the Commission has since delivered and handed over the donation to Borno and Yobe states.
Responding, the Gombe State deputy governor Manasseh Jatau who received the items on behalf of the state government assured that the gesture will be delivered to those it was meant for.
While thanking the NEDC for the donation, the deputy governor appealed for more interventions from the commission to the state.
