Another rainstorm in Kebbi State, at the weekend, rendered over 1,000 people homeless at Zuru, in Zuru Local Government Area of the state and wiped off houses in Haggi village along Shengel Road in Danko Wasabu Local Government Area of the state.

Daily Sun gathered that the rainstorm, followed an heavy down pour on Saturday night, affected residents of Zuru town and blew off roofs of many houses.

It could be recalled that over 800 houses were damaged by rainstorm in Mayama town, penultimate weekend, with 700 people wounded.

Sources who spoke to journalists, on Monday, in Birnin-Kebbi, disclosed that houses two villages called Ribah and Haggi along Shengel  Road were turned to rubbles.

One of the sources who hailed from Zuru town said, “I was at home. The town was badly affected and about 1,000 houses roof were blown off. Two villages, Ribah and Haggi village in Danko-Wasagu local government along Shangel all the houses in the area were turned to rumbles.”

Daily Sun learnt that on Saturday night, in Birnin-Kebbi, the rainstorm also wrecked havoc in many areas including Gesse Phase II, Mechanic Village in Gbadaria areas among others.

Electrical poles, houses roof were damaged which threw many part of Birnin-Kebbi, the state capital to total darkness.

Speaking with Daily Sun, a resident of Ribah, AbdulKarim Bayero said: “80 percentage of houses were destroyed during the second rainfall. The first rainfall was not such a disaster.

“The most affected area is Hayi area with 80 percent houses turned to rubbles.”

Efforts to get the Chairman of Kebbi State Emergency and Relieve Materials Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Sani  Dododo, to comment on the development, on phone, proved abortive. All calls made to his mobile phone were not picked and a text message sent to him was not replied as at the time of filling this story.

Executive Director of SEMA, Alhaji Abbas Rabiu Kamba, when contacted in his office said “The  affected local government chairmen have not informed us about the incident. ”

The Deputy Governor, Col. Samaila Yobai Dabai, who visited the area donated ,N3 million to the affected victims and directed the Sole Administrator of the local government to compile the lists of victims so that the state government could assist them.
