Four persons allegedly lost their lives on the spot, Thursday night, when a speeding commercial tricycle they were traveling in, rammed into a moving sienna Toyota car, in Umu Okwukwu, along the Obingwa Council Area axis of the Aba/Ikot Ekpene highway in Abia State.
The fifth victim, it was gathered, died in a hospital he was taken to for medical attention.
It was reported that the driver of the tricycle, popularly known as ‘keke’, carrying four passengers returning home from the days business in Aba, was overspeeding, despite having poor vision of the road currently being reconstructed, when the incident occured.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Chika Dick, said the keke operator, and three of his passengers, died on the spot, while an injured passenger in the sienna car, got declared dead in a nearby private clinic where he was taken to for treatment.
According to Dick, “the accident would have avoided, if Keke and motorcycle transport operators in the area move at normal speed limits instead of what they do presently through over speeding under the influence of drugs.”
There has been no comment on the incident by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) or Umuobiakwa division of the Nigeria Police, which oversees security in the area, on the incident, as at the time of this report.
