No fewer than 46 petitions have so far been received by the election petition tribunal in Enugu State from aggrieved candidates in the just concluded 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Thirty-eight of the petitions were filed by dissatisfied legislative candidates while eight were from governorship candidates and political parties challenging the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Peter Mbah, as the winner of the governorship election.

Confirming the receipt of the petitions, at the weekend to newsmen, Secretary to the Tribunal, Yusuf Folmi, said those contesting Mbah’s victory were Labour Party (LP) candidate, Chijioke Edoga; Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, Nnamdi Omeje and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) candidate, Christopher Agu.

Also challenging Mbah’s declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Frank Nweke Jr;  Action Alliance (AA) candidate, Cosmas Okey and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Uche Nnaji.

Folmi said Action Alliance (AA) and Action Peoples Party (ACP) were also contesting Mbah’s victory.

Daily Sun gathered that among the legislative candidates, who filed petitions challenging the results declared by INEC for their constituencies, were  Labour Party candidate for Igbo Etiti East, Onyeabor Ngwu; PDP candidate for Nsukka West, Agbo Amadi; PDP candidate for Igbo Etiti East, Charles Ugwu and  Labour Party candidate for Nkanu East, Okwudili Nnaji.
