Following the opening match between Nigeria and Sierra Leone in Lagos on Monday, the young cricket star from Nigeria, Piety Lucky is back in the spotlight after being selected Player of the Match.

Piety contributed to Nigeria’s 6-wicket victory over Sierra Leone by playing not-out and at a respectable strike rate of 91.67. With 24 balls, she batted 22 runs. Piety also took two of the opposition’s wickets and bowled a maiden over (an over where the opponent did not score any point), both of which helped Nigeria win.

Nigeria elected to field first after winning the toss. The girls from Sierra Leone batted for 65 runs but lost 9 wickets. Nigeria lost early wickets in the second innings, including those of captain Blessing Etim, Favour Eseigbe, Esther Sandy, and Salome Sunday before Agatha Uadiale and Piety Lucky came to save the day by bringing the tally to 67 runs in 14.1 over.  

Nigeria will also square up against Cameroon, Ghana, and archrival, Rwanda in the coming days of the tournament. Rwanda defeated Nigeria to win the first edition of the ICC-sanctioned cricket tourney organized by the Nigeria Cricket Federation, (NCF).

Meanwhile, Rwanda is leading against Ghana in the second game of the day at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval, (TBS) in Lagos.
