More than 1, 000 registered cooperative societies in Kebbi State have applied for loan provided by Federal Government for entrepreneurs across the state.

The loan, which ranges from N50, 000 to N100, 000,  was made available by Federal Government under intervention Programme on general entrepreneurship.

Daily Sun learnt that about 50 cooperative societies have so far registered for the programme in the state.

While confirming the development to journalists in Birnin-Kebbi, on Tuesday, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Boyi Dikko, said that the programme was to empowered women and youth on general entrepreneurship skills.

Hajiya Dikko said that each cooperative society must have at least 10 representatives as prerequisite for the collection of loan adding that the loan would be pay back for the period of six month.

According to her, “More than one thousand societies have applied for the loan with the interest free and only five percent administrative charges, the loan is between 50,000 to 100,000 and above” she added.

 

She disclosed that the beneficiaries of the programme through her Ministry includes; market Women, Youth, Farmers women, Entrepreneurs as well as the less-privilage who were engaged on one or two things and have certificate of cooperative society.

She  commended the effort of the Federal and state governments for the programme. She also urged beneficiaries to make good use of the money.
