The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin Can Island Port Command has uncovered a revolver pistol and four rounds of ammunition kept in the trunk of a used Toyota Solara sedan that was shipped into the country.
Impeccable sources told Daily Sun that the highly prohibited items were discovered during routine inward inspection of discharged vehicles at the Five Star Logistics Terminal.
Import documents showed the vehicle was declared as Toyota Camry with chassis number 4T1FA38P46U065280 .
Name of consignee was given as Bisola Fagbohun/ Shipper Nostrum Freight LLC with US00033453 as bill of laden number.The document also indicated Bayonne as Port of Loading.
Managing Director of Five Star Logistics, W. Schneider said in a letter to various security agencies at the port that the discovery was made by tally clerks.
“After a first inspection by the police, the vehicle was locked and parked aside in our terminal and is now under constant surveillance by our security guards and the police till further instructions”
As at the time of doing this report, no arrest has been made.
Sources added that there is an ongoing inter departmental investigation into the matter involving the police, Department of State Service and Nigeria Customs.
Arms and ammunition falls under absolute prohibition in the Nigerian import prohibition list.
To import such items, clearance ‎from the office of the National Security Adviser and other security agencies are got before they can be shipped into the country.
