…Says military is deceiving president

By Ayo Alonge

THE Niger Delta Avengers have advised the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services not to bask in the false euphoria that they have arrested two of its members, stating that the individuals taking into custody by the DSS were really moles of the security agencies now being passed off as members of the militant group.

Debunking the claims of the security agencies, the Avengers, in a press statement released yesterday and signed by the spokesperson of the group, Brigadier-General Mudoch Agbinibo, denied any links with Mr Christian Oluba alias Sensor and Selky Kile Torus, who were arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) and alleged to be members of Niger Delta Avengers.

The statement reads in part: “The claim that the two men arrested by the DSS are members of the Niger Delta Avengers is laughable. The fact is that they are sleeper agents (moles) of the DSS sent after the Niger Delta Avengers. The boys have the right to demand their money from DSS. Why not pay them instead of arresting and labelling them as members of Niger Delta Avengers? If the DSS are denying this, then let them allow the suspects to speak to the press. We, Niger Delta Avengers, don’t have any connection with these boys. We dare the DSS to allow the boys to tell the world their side of the story,” NDA said in the statement, boasting that members of the group cannot be defeated.

Agbinibo added: “The DSS and the Nigerian Army can’t win the Niger Delta war by feeding their president with false information about the situation of things in the region. It is all too good because as it seems, the DSS is now having internal crisis with most of their sleeper agents and it is a sign that God is on our side. There are problems in the Niger Delta region such as underdevelopment, environmental degradation, lack of infrastructure and the issue of self-determination. These are the areas Mr. President should focus on, not arresting DSS allies and linking them to Niger Delta Avengers. To the DSS Director General, Lawal Daura, we say that this is the holy month of Ramadan and as a Muslim you owe it to Allah and the Nigerian people to speak the truth. Why not come out with the truth? To the Nigerian press, there are always two sides to a story. Why not try to get the other side of the story by interviewing the boys? The Nigeria Army will never get us (Niger-Delta Avengers). Let them go and settle with their sleeper-agents and stop deceiving the general public and their President.”
